Dose by Intention: How the DART System Matches Your Chamber to the Effect You Want
Oct 05, 2026
9.4%. That is the share of U.S. adults, about 24 million people, who say they have intentionally microdosed cannabis, according to a national survey published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine in May 2026. Cannabis microdosing turned out to be nearly twice as common as microdosing psilocybin or LSD. The lead researcher's read on why was refreshingly simple: many people "may just want to take less, so they don't want to get as high."
That is the whole philosophy of The DART in one sentence. We make a dry herb system for people who know the effect they want and would rather hit it on purpose than stumble into it. It starts with how you store your flower, and it ends with a chamber sized to your intention.
What people actually use a small dose for
Before talking hardware, it helps to know what people are reaching for. Two large surveys paint a consistent picture.
In the University of Michigan's 2024 National Poll on Healthy Aging, adults 50 and older who used cannabis named their top reasons:
| Reason for using cannabis | Share of users |
|---|---|
| To relax | 81% |
| To help with sleep | 68% |
| To enjoy the effects or feel good | 64% |
| To help with pain | 63% |
| To help mental health or mood | 53% |
| To make a social gathering more fun | 31% |
The 2026 microdosing study found a similar mix among people deliberately taking small amounts: managing anxiety, low mood, and chronic discomfort came up most, alongside plenty of people who simply prefer a lighter experience. Microdosing, as the researchers define it, means roughly one fifth to one twentieth of a typical recreational dose.
Notice what is missing from those lists: "to get as high as possible." The overwhelming majority of use is about a specific, moderate outcome. A calmer evening. An easier night. A little lift at a dinner party. Those outcomes live in a narrow band, and the band is easy to overshoot.
Why the effect depends on the amount
The same poll surfaced two findings that explain why measurement matters. Seventy-nine percent of older adults agreed cannabis is stronger today than it was 20 or 30 years ago, and among monthly users, 22% said they had used more to get the effect they wanted, while 21% found the same amount had less effect than it used to.
Stronger flower plus loose, pinch-based dosing is how people drift upward. Researchers are also clear that the evidence on microdosing is still developing and that no official dosing guideline exists. That uncertainty is exactly why consistency is valuable: if you cannot rely on a label to tell you what to take, you can at least rely on your tool to give you the same amount every time, so you learn what actually works for you.
It starts in the canister
Every intentional session begins before you light anything. Our herb canisters store pre-ground flower in an airtight, smell-proof metal container, so you grind once and carry a ready supply anywhere: the Standard Canister holds 3.5 grams, the Premium Canister and Model III Canister hold 6 grams, and the XL Canister holds 12.
Your DART nests inside the canister. To load, you dip the chamber into the ground flower, twist, and lift. Because the flower is evenly ground and the motion is the same each time, the chamber fills the same way each time. Storage and dosing become one repeatable habit rather than a guess.
Match your chamber to your intention
This is why we make more than one chamber size. Different intentions call for different amounts, and a fixed chamber lets you choose that amount once, then repeat it.
The lightest touch: DART MD, 0.15 grams
For the reasons people cite most often, relaxing, winding down, easing into sleep, or taking the edge off a stressful day, the smallest load is usually the right starting point. The DART MD holds 0.15 grams, a deliberately small, single-session amount that fits the microdosing mindset: enough to notice, not enough to lose the evening.
Choose it if: you want a subtle, functional effect, you are new or returning to cannabis, or you simply want to take less.
The middle ground: DART Pro, 0.25 grams
Some intentions need a bit more room, a longer wind-down, or a session where comfort matters as much as effect. The DART Pro holds 0.25 grams and runs every draw through an integrated filter and mesh screen for a cooler, smoother pull. The DART Pro Titanium offers the same 0.25 gram chamber in biomedical-grade titanium, the most durable pipe we make.
Choose it if: you know the lightest load is not quite enough, or you want a cleaner, filtered draw.
The fuller session: DART Plus, 0.30 grams
"Enjoy the effects" and "make a social gathering more fun" were on the list too, and those moments are often shared. The DART Plus holds 0.30 grams for a larger measured load, still fixed, still repeatable, with the same one-button control over loading, airflow, and ash.
Choose it if: you want a fuller session, you are sharing, or you have found your sweet spot sits above the smaller chambers.
Quick reference
| If your intention is... | Start with | Chamber |
|---|---|---|
| Relax, wind down, take the edge off | DART MD | 0.15 g |
| A longer session with a smoother draw | DART Pro | 0.25 g |
| The same, built to last a lifetime | DART Pro Titanium | 0.25 g |
| A fuller or shared session | DART Plus | 0.30 g |
How to find your amount
Mindful consumption is a feedback loop, and a fixed chamber is what makes the loop work.
- Start one size smaller than you think you need. You can always take a second session. You cannot take back an oversized first one.
- Wait before you add more. Inhaled cannabis acts quickly, so give it several minutes and check in with how you feel.
- Keep everything else the same. Same canister, same grind, same chamber. When only one variable changes, you learn from it.
- Size up only on purpose. If the smaller chamber consistently falls short of your intention, move up a size rather than packing harder.
Want the whole loop in one purchase? The Core Kit pairs your choice of DART with a canister and a smell-resistant carry case.

The point of all this
Most people are not chasing intensity. They are chasing a specific feeling, relaxed, rested, social, at ease, and that feeling lives at a specific amount. The DART system exists so you can find that amount, carry it anywhere in a canister, and land on it again tomorrow. Know your intention, choose your chamber, and take exactly what you meant to.
This article summarizes published survey research on why people use cannabis. It is not medical advice, and The DART makes no health or treatment claims. If you are managing pain, sleep, anxiety, or mood, talk with a qualified healthcare professional. Chamber and canister capacities are physical specifications. Cannabis laws vary by location.
